The Pocantico River in legendary Sleepy Hollow is the object of a ground-breaking conservation program sponsored by the Pocantico Fund. The Pocantico is the stream where American literary great, Washington Irving, first learned to trout-fish, as a teenager, in the summer of 1798. He was later to make Sleepy Hollow (the valley of the Pocantico River) famous, in his immortal tale "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow."

Each year the Pocantico Fund helps to stock hundreds
of trout into this historic river--so damaged in the twentieth century. The Pocantico Fund also works with local volunteers to make
stream improvements, to reduce environmental impacts on the Pocantico,
and to pass regulations which will insure its future health.

Washington Irving was introduced to the Pocantico River over 200 years ago, when, for the first time, he visited Sleepy Hollow and Tarrytown. "In this stream I first essayed my unskillful hand at angling," he wrote. The work of the Pocantico Fund is about preservation, community, education, and stewardship. It's also about perserving a living piece of our national heritage.

Your contribution will enable this valuable program to continue. Can we
